Harriet on the Road

When the first book, First Of The Few, was published in November 2019, the plan was to take it on the road in 2020 and show it at events and airshows across the country. However, this was derailed somewhat when 2020 'happened', and the world turned a little. If there's a silver lining, it's that Covid and the subsequently intensely busy years that followed gave me a nudge to promote the books online, and to my relief and eternal gratitude, they really took off (pun intended), both home and abroad.

In 2025 I finally managed to take Harrit Cornwall on the road, and in 2026 we'll be going again!

Battle of Britain Airshow 2025
Headcorn, Kent

In 2025, with Project H25 moving forward with some success, 2020's plans finally came to fruition, and I attended the 2025 Battle of Britain airshow at Headcorn airfield in Kent. A show I'd visited in the past, and an airfield where I first flew a Harvard T6!

Over two days I got to talk with hundreds of people, and hear some very interesting stories, while having the opportunity to introduce Harriet Cornwall to the world a little more, and showing the clothing and equipment she would have worn and used.

West London Aero Club Members Day 2025
White Waltham, Berkshire

The second trip out of 2025 was to White Waltham airfield in Berkshire for the West London Aero Club Members Day. White Waltham is the spiritual home of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA), who had their headquarters there during the Second World War, and felt like the place that Harriet Cornwall was destined to visit.

The event was fantastic, despite the weather's best attempts to put a dampener on things, and once again I had the opportunity to talk with some incredible people and hear their stories, while introduce Harriet Cornwall to a few more people, and showing the clothing and equipment she would have worn and used. I even got to meet the granddaughter and daughter of the great Jackie Moggridge, one of the small number of female ATA pilots who served during the war, and flew 500 Spitfires in her time, not to mention being one of the first women to ever be awarded the RAF pilot brevet (wings)!

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
East Kirkby, Lincolnshire

East Kirkby is an old bomber station in the heart of Lincolnshire's 'bomber country' that now serves as an aviation heritage centre, where the owners and an army of volunteers are working hard to restore Lancaster Bomber 'Just Jane' to airworthiness, while displaying a ground restored Mosquito night fighter, and restoring a B25 Mitchell bomber. I've visited a number of times in the past, and it's a fantastic place!

The end of season event involved a night time taxi run of the Lancaster and Mosquito under moody Autumn skies, followed by an incredible firework display. The event also doubled as the launch of my new novel, Falling Shadows, and I had a fantastic day promoting the books, talking to many interesting people, and showing off the new additions to the collection, including the  First Aid Nursing Yeomanry tunic.
